Who were Gabriel and Lucifer, the angels? Were they fallen angels, too? And who was Michael the angel, as well?

I understand that Lucifer was the name given to Satan before he descended from heaven; which meant "Bright Star", if I'm not mistaken. So why do people compare the two, wasn't Lucifer a good angel, until he decided to overthrow God, than became known as the devil? And is that why in some paintings the Devil/Satan is draw-en, well... with charming looks, b/c that is one of SIN'S deadliest forms? Beauty on the outside but PURE wickedness in the inside. Was Gabriel, a man or women? So, what were the roles of Lucifer, Gabriel, amd Michael?
