What do you do when your cat misbehaves and shows aggression?

We use a water filled squirt bottle. Squirt at them if they act up. Never in the face. We have 4 cats and they are all pretty well behaved. We rarely have to use it, just the sound of the pumping makes them stop whatever they're doing now.
